The Tattoo Today

The Tattoo Today

Is the tattoo today any better?
Back in the pre-historic times, several tribal people had their way of showing commitment to their tribes, and marking themselves. In Africa, the tribes were forced to undergo scarification which involves scratching, etching, burning / branding, or superficially cutting designs, pictures, or words into the skin as a permanent body modification. However in places like Greenland and around the Antarctic Circle, the eskimos had to undergo skin stitching which involves piercing the skin with thread and fish bones. In such ways most cultures in the world had a way of marking themselves.
Today, most people even think getting a tattoo is against religion, but who are they to really judge?
Some extremely orthodox Christians think, having a tattoo is evil and God won’t accept them, but as a matter of fact, the Bible does not condemn people from tattooing (New Testament).
Several Eastern Religions like Buddhism and Shinto Worship (worship of ancestors) are strict about having their religious mark made on the skin of every follower.
But, there still, are people who think, having a tattoo is Atheistic.
However, there a two kinds of people who get a tattoo; One, they do it for themselves, so they can be remembered and connected with something; Two, they do it for fun.
Few people who do a tattoo, they do it so they can stay connected to that particular thing, for instance, getting your boyfriend’s name tattooed would mean show how committed I am in my relationship, or getting a particular image that meant a lot to me. Some of them get a tattoo in places where it cannot be exposed, for instance, on your thigh or your belly, etc. It doesn’t necessarily have to be exposed when the tattoo is for you. While the rest, want a tattoo just for fun, either carelessly or just to show off. For instance if I get a tattoo of my boyfriend and he dumps me later, it’s hard for me to get the tattoo off, because of my carelessness. Or if you do a tattoo of something on a place where you expose every day, it’s just going to look like you WANT to show off.
Whether you have a tattoo in a place where everyone can see, or in a place where it is only for you, NO ONE has the right to judge. That’s exactly what happens today. People judge others by the design of their tattoos. This is completely ridiculous. When the culture has no problem with it, then why does the mind-set? Why do people think ill of people with a tattoo?
Anyway, I hope to convince my mother in getting my first tattoo before April 2013
