Why
do you wear the Cross?
Back
when Jesus Christ lived on the Earth as man, the Cross was a symbol of death.
People like thieves, slaves, or any person who was accused of sin, was
punished. This punishment included an excruciating experience of being
crucified on the cross. However, the word “excruciating” comes from the word “cruciate”
which means cross, and “ex” which means uncontrollable; Hence, meaning,
uncontrollable and unimaginable pain. If accused of any wrong, the majority
would scream out the punishment. If they’d yell “crucify” then the accused will
have to be crucified.
Back
then, if anyone would wear a cross around their neck, it’d be interpreted as a
death symbol and someone who’s unclean. But, when Jesus Christ was crucified on
the cross, it started to seem holy all suddenly. Why? When the accused was
crucified, the Roman soldiers would first nail the wrists of their hands so that
all the nerves that connect the hands to the body deactivate and become numb.
They then, stretch the hands as to locate them on the cross which causes the
dislocation of their shoulders. The rib cage was constrained in a fixed
position, which made it extremely difficult to exhale, and impossible to take a
full breadth. The victim would continually try to draw himself up to allow
inflation of the lungs having terrible pain in his feet and legs. The pain in
the legs and feet become unbearable and the victim was forced to trade
breathing for pain. The length of time required to die from crucifixion could
range from hours to a number of death. So basically, crucifying someone was NOT
an easy task. However, wearing the cross around one’s neck was considered
something equal to death.
Comparing
the above to the 21st Century, wearing the cross has become a
fashion. Most Christians themselves don’t know why they wear a cross around
their necks. Some wear it because they believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Whereas some, think it’s just cool to wear them in public. A friend of mine,
wanted to wear a rosary but didn’t know what it means. So, why do you wear the
cross? Is it because you think it looks cool, or do you know what it really
means? Some Christians don’t believe in the cross and hence are prohibited from
wearing the crucifix around their neck. Some get a crucifix tattoo done too.
Well, I wear the crucifix to tell people I am a believer of the Almighty.
Wow.. thanks for that.. Was very informative.. I loved the blog.. thanks again
